Digital Air Pollution Filter is an innovative digital tool designed to raise awareness about air pollution through the lens of your smartphone camera.
This unique project employs a digital filter, reminiscent of popular social media filters, to overlay an image with artificial fog.
The density of this fog directly corresponds to the air pollution levels at the user's current location, offering a visual representation of an often invisible threat.

How It Works
- Real-Time Air Quality Data: The filter integrates with the Sensor Community database, a comprehensive and user-contributed network providing real-time air quality measurements.
- Location-Based Visualization: When a user captures a picture, the application uses their current location to find the nearest air quality sensor.
The data from this sensor then determines the thickness and intensity of the artificial fog added to the image.
- Privacy and Data Protection: We prioritize user privacy. Images processed by Digital Air Pollution Filter are never stored on our servers.
They are processed in real time and then immediately deleted.
Similarly, user locations are not saved; they are only used transiently to source local air quality data.
The Sensor Community Network
- User-Contributed Data: The Sensor Community database relies on a global network of user-contributed sensors.
These sensors provide a grassroots-level view of air quality in various locations.
- Accuracy and Limitations: While we strive for accurate representation, the data's precision depends on the proximity and density of sensors in the user’s area.
Sensor Community data offers a general idea of air quality but may not always reflect minute-by-minute changes or micro-environment variations.
Our Mission
Digital Air Pollution Filter is more than just a digital filter; it's a movement towards greater environmental consciousness.
By visualizing air pollution in a tangible form, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of and engagement with our local and global environment.
Our goal is to encourage conversations about air quality and inspire collective action towards a cleaner, healthier planet.
